It's been around a month since I started my internship and I am enjoying it so far. I have become more comfortable around the office, and the work is pretty fun. My new specialty or designated job seems to be posting to Instagram. This is not surprising as managing their social media is most, if not all, of what I do. I used to wonder how social media could become someone's profession, but I think I finally get it. While it might only take a few seconds for someone to see a post, the effort behind creating it usually takes a lot longer. When creating a new Instagram post, we have to start off with a good idea. Luckily this firm, and I'm guessing most firms, keeps close track of all their projects, past and present. We have before and after photos, graphics (a type of drawing), and plans upon plans. We can pull from our databases and any other things we might want to post about, such as other firms we work with and other Rice architects....
I am very lucky to have started a new internship at a wonderful architecture firm. Natalye Appel + Architecture is a small firm here in Houston where I will be interning for the rest of the school year. I became interested in architecture this summer after playing my favorite childhood video game, Minecraft (Yes, I am serious), and contacted Natalye to see if I could help her out as an intern and see what working in an architecture firm is actually like. As it turns out, she needed some help with their social media and online presence, and being the "tech-savvy" teen that I am, I was more than happy to help.
