It's been around a month since I started my internship and I am enjoying it so far. I have become more comfortable around the office, and the work is pretty fun. My new specialty or designated job seems to be posting to Instagram. This is not surprising as managing their social media is most, if not all, of what I do. I used to wonder how social media could become someone's profession, but I think I finally get it. While it might only take a few seconds for someone to see a post, the effort behind creating it usually takes a lot longer.
When creating a new Instagram post, we have to start off with a good idea. Luckily this firm, and I'm guessing most firms, keeps close track of all their projects, past and present. We have before and after photos, graphics (a type of drawing), and plans upon plans. We can pull from our databases and any other things we might want to post about, such as other firms we work with and other Rice architects. Usually there's a few ideas that we come up with every week, so at the moment we are in excess of posting ideas.
Besides just a photo and idea, one of the most important things is writing a good caption, and making sure to tag all parties involved both in the photo and in the caption. I also add locations as they can be more helpful. After all that, which takes a surprising amount of time, it's ready to be seen by the world, and I press 'share.'
